Smoker's LinesBoard Certified Plastic Surgeon in Dallas, TexasSmoker's lines are caused by attachments of lip muscles to the skin around the mouth. Permanent lines appear around the mouth from repeated contraction of these muscles. These lines occur more frequently in smokers, partly as a result of the negative effects of smoking on skin tone, but non-smokers are not immune to this problem. Smoker's lines are sometimes treated by Botox injections around the mouth, which work by partial weakening of lip muscles. Drooling is a potential side effect of this treatment. Another treatment option involves augmenting the lips to make them appear fuller and diminishing the appearance of smoker's lines. This can be done using any of the available lip fillers, including Restylane, Juevederm, Perlane.
