Plastic Surgery may Improve Psychological Wellness
A new study suggests common plastic surgery procedures, including tummy tuck and liposuction, change more than your physical self. Presented at a meeting of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the study looked at the effect plastic surgery had upon the lives of 105 patients of various ages.
After plastic surgery, the majority of patients experienced:
- Positive impact psychologically
- Better quality of life
- Improved self image
These positive effects likely come from an improved body image. A woman who has breast enlargement may feel more confident and at-home in her body once her breasts have been enlarged. When you feel good about the way you look and the way other people view you, your self-esteem and confidence may be greatly improved. Self-esteem is closely linked to body image.
There is an important difference between pursuing plastic surgery to create the body you have always wanted and plastic surgery to look like someone else or to fulfill what you think are other people’s expectations. Plastic surgery shouldn’t be about chasing someone else’s identity, but about achieving your cosmetic goals.
